Cybersecurity guide
Cybersecurity basics for a growing SME
Small and growing organisations do not need to begin with the most complex security stack. They need to reduce avoidable exposure in the areas that support everyday work.
Protect identities first
Use strong authentication, appropriate access levels and a controlled process for joiners, movers and leavers. Shared accounts make accountability and offboarding harder.
Keep devices and software managed
Know which devices access business systems, keep supported software updated and remove unnecessary administrative privileges where practical.
Make backups recoverable
A backup only helps if it is current, protected and can actually be restored. Recovery expectations should be tested against the systems the business depends on.
Include people and process
Phishing awareness, payment verification, safe password practices and clear escalation routes can reduce common operational risks.
This guide is general guidance, not a penetration test, compliance certification or formal security assessment.
